If you’re a sorority girl, you know that recruitment is basically Christmas. In the weeks leading up to bid day you’re super busy and perpetually stressed out, but its all worth it when you get to hand your perfect new members their first shirt (but certainly not their last) with your letters on it.

Lucky for your new members, sorority shirts are going through a major upgrade! We’re seeing some adorable new trends pop up in the sorority apparel world, and we’ve put together a few of our favorites just in time for the 2017-2018 school year.

Flowy styles

Sororities and fraternities have stuck to classic unisex tees and v-necks for years, but there’s a new trend on the block in 2017. This year its all about flowy styles that flatter all body types and add a feminine flair.

Foil Prints

Foil prints are a super cute way to add a little shine to your shirt without going over the top. We make them by screen printing an adhesive to the shirts then heat pressing them with a colored foil. Gold and silver are our most popular foil colors, but we do offer plenty of other color options to fit your style.

Tri Delta Gold Foil - Foil trend

Wreaths

Because nothing says Greek Goddess like a pretty wreath! This trend is cool because there are a ton of different wreaths to choose from, so you never have to worry about another chapter having the same look. Try a foil printed wreath to add a little wow factor!

Graduation is about possibilities. Whether its from high school or college, graduation means a fresh start. From the moment a student walks across the stage, they get a new beginning and a chance to build the life they choose. That’s a significant and powerful moment worth celebrating!

The question is, when your friend or loved one is stepping out into the world, what gift can you give that really celebrates this rite of passage? Sure, you could go with a gift card or cash, those things are always appreciated. But if there were ever a time to give a gift of significance, this would be it!

We may not be experts, but in our experience, you can’t go wrong if you ask yourself these three questions when shopping for a graduation gift.

DOES THIS SUIT THEIR STYLE?

The most important thing you need to think about is the person you’re buying for. This may sound elementary, but even when you’re out shopping for someone else, it can be really easy to pick up the items that you love. Make sure the gift reflects the taste and style of the graduate.

WILL THEY EVER USE THIS?

Graduating usually precedes a big move or lifestyle change, so consider what the graduate may need moving forward. Are they moving to a dorm room where they’ll need everything from decorations to basic sheets and towels? Are they starting their first big job out of college? Think about their upcoming needs and try to get them something they can use on a regular basis.

IS THIS GIFT PERSONAL OR MEANINGFUL?

The best graduation gifts reflect this moment in time. Graduation is both a beginning and an end (sort of), so you can go either way! You can give a gift that will make your graduate feel excited and inspired for the future, or you can opt for the gift that will take them down memory lane. Both are wonderful, you can’t go wrong. The most important thing you can do is make it personal. Choose a gift that you can customize and personalize.

We may not be experts, but we know how to customize and personalize just about anything. So while we can’t give you a “top ten things to buy a graduate” list, we can suggest a couple of things that are guaranteed to make any graduate feel special.

Canvas prints

Map Edited Hannah

The best thing about canvas is that it’s super versatile! You can print custom designs, quotes, artwork, photographs, and more. Canvas can be mounted, framed, or hung as-is and you’re not limited to standard sizes.

Not sure what design you want printed? We offer custom design services as well as canvas printing, so if you’re not an artist, we’ve got you covered. If you’re fresh out of design ideas, our favorite graduation gifts for 2017 are customized maps. You can choose the map you like, and add a quote or a name that fits your graduate! This gift is great for grads who are about to embark on their journey into the world. They can even check off the places they visit as they go! It’s a keepsake for life.

Embroidered gifts

Blanket Embroidered Letter

Custom name or monogram embroidery is another great way to create a personalized gift your grad will use and love. We find that the most loved embroidered gifts are the ones students can use at school! Personalized blankets are great for dorm life because they can’t get mixed up with a roommates. We also suggest towels, backpacks, and cozy bath robes.

When you’re in high school, class T-shirts represent a year in your life and your place in the school. After graduation, class shirts become keepsakes. When we see them years after high school has passed, we are reminded of the time we spent with our peers and the fun we had together.

As screen printers, we see plenty of class shirts. Some are funny, some are sassy, and some are serious. While it’s never easy to choose the perfect phrase to mark a moment in time, we’ve seen some pretty great ones! Today we’re sharing our top picks for the 2016-2017 school year.

We may not be the style experts at fashion week, but we like to think we know the world of T-shirts pretty well. After 10 or 15 years in the industry, you get pretty good at spotting trends and knowing what to expect in the upcoming months.

For example, one thing we’re seeing this year is a big rise in the popularity of T-shirts. Tees are no longer just for lounge and casual wear. Wearing a T-shirt to work or out to dinner is very much in style, as long as it’s done correctly of course. Tees paired with slacks or pencil skirts make for a great business casual vibe.

This summer, printed tees are trending in a big way. First things first, if you haven’t yet noticed, the 90’s are back. Except this time with a 70’s twist. This means the loose fitting tops and casual style of the 90’s, but with the pops of color we all know and love from the 70’s. Think geometric patterns, think psychedelic colors and prints. These are all going to be super hot for summer 2016.

Another trend we expect to stay hot this summer; food. Something about this time of year makes people want to wear shirts featuring food. Expect to see printed fruits, desserts, and other edibles all summer long. This trend isn’t going anywhere.

As for graphic tees, it’s all about flowy, bold, free style fonts. Brush hand-lettering, cursive and loopy fonts are in style in a big way. This means sassy and inspirational quote tees are here to stay as well.

These are just a few trends you can expect to see this summer in the printed tee world. To learn about the shirt styles trending this summer, stay tuned! Our next post will show you the right styles, fabrics, and colors you need to fill your summer wardrobe.

Ordering T-shirts can be a hassle. It starts out simple enough, you’re in a meeting and someone decides it would be fun to make T-shirts for your organization or maybe an upcoming event. Everyone thinks it sounds like a great plan until you all start trying to create a design. If nobody in the group is an artist, how do you make a T-shirt design that doesn’t look like a 6-year-old drew it?

IMG_0171

You can go online to a website and create a T-shirt, but then you’re limited to a few clip art options and approximately 12 font choices. You can create the shirt in a word document (bad idea), but then you have no clue how to size it correctly for a T-shirt or how it will look when it’s printed out.

We hear our clients talk about this problem over and over again, and we know it’s no fun! The good news is that artwork for T-shirts does not have to be stressful for you. Simply choose a screen printer with in-house designers. At Cornerstone, we are so lucky to have some amazing designers on our team. They take drawings, ideas and words and turn them into beautiful artwork for print.

Next time you decide you want to make custom T-shirts for an event, all you have to do is let us know. We can brainstorm ideas with you, take any instructions you have for us and create a custom design you’ll love. Check out a few custom designs created by our artists below:

Some of these designs you see above were nothing more than a general idea when they first came to us. The beauty of having in-house graphic designers is that it saves you time, effort and a lot of group discussions over T-shirt designs.

When you’re ready to make tees for your next event, please don’t stress about the design! Let our artists handle everything for you. If you don’t like the design at first, no problem, we’ll make it again. To see more from our designers, follow us here at Just Inkin’ Around and check us out on social media!

If you’re like us, you love giving gifts at the holidays. You like to make the people in your life feel special and you like to see them smile. What you probably don’t like so much, however, is selecting the right gift for each person! When you’ve got a long list of people you appreciate, it can be challenging to find the right gifts for everyone. You want your gifts to be meaningful and enjoyable. After all, nobody wants to give another basket of coffee and pecans. But with so many people on your list, how can you make sure each gift feels personal and special?

We’ve got you covered. In our experience, the best way to add that personal touch is to literally get personal. Personalization can take a gift from simple to elegant in one smooth step. It can turn a basic item into something completely unique. This year, we’re giving you a step-by-step guide to gift giving that will ensure everyone on your list gets a little something special!

Step 1: MAKE A LIST OF THE PEOPLE IN YOUR WORLD

When it comes to shopping, one should never begin without a list. Shopping without a list is the reason you walk into Target for a bar of soap and leave with a full cart and $300 less than you walked in with. So, for your wallet’s sake, take a few minutes to sit down and write out a list of everyone you want to give gifts to this year. Break them down into categories like family, friends, teachers, coworkers, business relationships, employees, etc.

Step 2: WHAT’S GOING ON IN THEIR WORLD?

After you’ve got a list of everyone you want to buy for, take a minute to sit down and think about each individual on your list and what’s going on in their lives this year. Did they have a new baby? Did they get married or move into a new house?Did they start a new job or retire from an old one? Did they graduate college? Did they send a child to college? Do they have any major events or changes coming up in their lives? Make a second column next to their names and write down something personal about each person in this column.

Step 3: WHAT DO THEY NEED IN THEIR WORLD?

Now that you’ve got a list and a little something personal about each person written down, think about gifts for life events. For example, newlyweds might enjoy a gift featuring their new family name, like a decorative pillow or a photo frame. A student might enjoy a cozy blanket or a lap desk to use while they study. Someone who recently started a new job might enjoy a padfolio or a name plate for their desk. Maybe grandma could use a new scarf. Once you’ve got a few gift ideas, add a third column and put down the gifts that would work for each person.

Now, you might know five people who moved into a new house or went off to college this year, and you want to get them all cozy new blankets. Remember, it’s totally okay to give the same item to multiple people, because we’re going to add a personal touch in the next step!

Step 4: PERSONALIZE

Now you’ve got a list of people to buy for and a list of which gifts to give, all you have to do is personalize! When you take the time to add a personal touch to gifts, people feel special! It’s a very easy way to show the people in your life how special they are to you. So, here are a few suggestions for gift personalization.

  • If you’re giving pillows or towels, have the family name or monogram embroidered onto these items. These make wonderful elegant gifts for the home, not to mention useful!
  • For grandma, add her monogram to a soft, cozy robe or a new scarf. She’ll stay warm and look pretty all winter long.
  • For the college student, add their team to a blanket, jacket or any other apparel item you choose! You can never go wrong with team spirit.
  • For that friend who started a new job, try monogramming a laptop bag or customizing a business card holder!

If you follow this step-by-step guide to gift giving, we promise your presents will not disappoint! We love creating personalized products for our clients, friends and family. Embroidered jackets and button down shirts are great forms of advertising and a popular choice among clients this time of year. When you’re shopping for shirts and jackets, you have a wide variety of fabrics, styles and sizes to choose from. In a store, all the choices are laid out in front of you so you can easily select the option that best suits your personal style.

When you’re thinking about custom embroidery, it’s a little less simple. You might have plenty of options, but if you can’t see them it’s pretty hard to choose the one that’s best for you. We don’t think that’s fair, which is why we are laying some of those options out on the table today. Now you can choose your custom embroidery style just like you would choose a shirt in a store.

LEFT OR RIGHT CHEST

Okay, we’ll go ahead and state the obvious here. The left or right chest is by far the most common embroidery location on a jacket or shirt. It’s simple, classic, and professional. Basically, if it were a person, it would be the person you take home to meet your mother.

Sleeve

The left and right shoulders are also very popular locations because they’re great for advertising, and here’s why: It’s less awkward for someone to stare at your shoulder from afar than it is for someone to stare at your chest. People may not take the time to read the logo on your chest for fear of making you uncomfortable. However, if it’s on your sleeve, they’re free to stare as long as they like.

ZTA SLEEVE POLO
Upper Back

Embroidery on your upper back is all about personal preference. Some like their embroidery in the center of the back, while others choose to place their logo on one shoulder blade or the other. Another common use for upper back embroidery is displaying a web address or full company name.

Yoke

The yoke, or nape of the neck, is a discreet location for those who want personalization but nothing flashy. It’s also a popular location for athletes to put their jersey number for a couple of reasons. First, the number allows the players to identify which jacket is whose. Second, the number lets the fans identify players on the sidelines during the game.

Yolk

Cuff

Embroidering shirt sleeve cuffs is becoming more and more popular as a gift item for events like weddings. Brides give their bridesmaids custom embroidered shirts to wear on the day of their wedding and to have as a keepsake afterward. Popular embroidery ideas for cuffs: date, “bridesmaid,” “bride,” “maid of honor,” etc.

Printed T-shirts are one of the few fashion trends that never go out of style. Custom shirts can make a statement, create awareness, and even unify a group of complete strangers. Over the years, we’ve printed T-shirts for every occasion imaginable and we’ve seen some really awesome ways to incorporate them into events. Today, we’re sharing 5 times for custom tees.

RETREATS

Whether you love them or hate them, most people have attended a retreat at least once. Some love the chance to get out of the office/classroom for a day while others would rather be working than socializing. We know that not everybody loves to bond over team-building exercises, but we also know this; nobody ever complains about the chance to wear a comfy T-shirt. Group retreat shirts serve as positive reminders of the team-building spirit long after the retreat is over. They’re also great advertising for your business or organization.

SHIRTS FOR A CAUSE

Shirts for a cause are some of our favorites to print. Whether your goal is to create awareness, support an organization, or raise funds, we’ve got you covered. Design your own shirts or ask us to create a design for you, we’re always happy to help!

SCHOOL GROUPS

Whenever you’re traveling with a group of students to competitions, games, trips, etc. it can be hard to stick together. Any teacher who has ever taken a class trip can tell you it’s a stressful experience for those in charge. One way to make this easier is with matching T-shirts.

When students are wearing group T-shirts, parents and teachers can easily spot them in a crowd and monitor them more effectively. This creates a safer environment for the students and peace of mind for those in charge of them. We suggest choosing a bold, solid colored shirt such as red, yellow, blue or green. These are easy to spot from a distance.

WEDDINGS

Weddings are all about making memories to last a lifetime and so are T-shirts! Bachelor and bachelorette parties are great events to make T-shirts for. Of course you can’t forget T-shirts for the bridesmaids to wear while they get ready! Create your own design or have us make one for you, either way, you can’t go shirtless to your wedding. 🙂

FAMILY REUNIONS

Family reunions are one of our favorite times for custom tees! Whether your reunion is big or small, shirts are a fun way to commemorate the day. Not to mention they can be seriously helpful when you’re trying to identify who amongst the crowd you’re actually related to, and who is simply a random person enjoying an afternoon in the park.

Other fun suggestions are to make “team” shirts for each branch of the family, print a funny picture of your family’s matriarch/patriarch, or use different color shirts for each branch of the family like our clients here:

Now that you’ve seen some of our favorite excuses to make custom T-shirts, we want to see yours! Producing high-quality screen prints requires a thorough understanding of the screen printing process and a great deal of practice. Many people don’t realize the screen printing process is lengthy and requires much attention to detail. Aaron Allen, a long-time member of our team, created this step by step video of our process. We’ll elaborate on each step below.

This video shows the screen printing process AFTER artwork is already created, separated into individual colors (each color = 1 screen), and printed onto clear films.

Step 1: Lining up and taping your image to be exposed in a light source.

In order to transfer an image from a clear film to a screen for printing, we first place the film on a UV light source and secure it with clear tape. Then we coat our screen with a light activated chemical called emulsion and place the screen on top of our film.

Step 2: Exposing the SCREEN TO THE light in order to burn the image into it

When emulsion is hit with UV light, it cures, or hardens, on the screen. The printed areas of your film will block out light. The emulsion will cure on the blank areas of the film only. This process, commonly referred to as ‘burning,’ essentially turns your screen into a stencil. Later, when your screen is on the printing press, ink will only be able to travel through the areas of the screen where there is no emulsion.

Step 3: Soak the screen

After your image is burned in the screen, take the screen to the wash tank and thoroughly soak each side of the screen. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the water time to react with the uncured emulsion.

Step 4: Spray out screen

Still at the wash tank, use a hose to spray off excess emulsion from your print area. You should spray the screen until you can clearly see through the design.

Step 5: Taping the screen up so ink doesn’t get through

Once you’ve let your screen dry and you’re ready to go to press, tape all around the edges of the screen’s borders. This will ensure no ink leaks onto your garment.

Step 6: Lining the screen up and adding ink

Now you’re moving the screen to your printing press and lining it up for print. For multi-colored designs, you will have multiple screens so it’s important to pay attention to detail and align the screens correctly. Otherwise, you could end up with one part of a print at the top of a shirt and the other part at the bottom.

Once your screens are lined up on your press, add ink. Only add one ink color per screen.

Step 7: Loading and pulling the shirts while running them through the dryer

As the press starts, load shirts onto blank pallets. Once a shirt has gone through it’s printing cycle, remove and place it onto the drying belt. It’s important to make sure the temperature of your dryer is high enough to properly cure the ink. If the temperature is not high enough, the image will crack and wash out. Once again, attention to detail is required. To ensure a high-quality print, check the dryer temperature with a laser thermometer.

Step 8: Remove squeegee and flood bar. Unhook air lock.

When all of your shirts are printed, it’s time to clean up. We first remove the squeegee and flood bar. The squeegee in screen printing is similar to the squeegee you use to clean your car windows, except this one was used to force ink through the mesh screen onto your garment. The flood bar is used to contain the ink. It helps keep ink under the squeegee and away from the edges of the frame.

Step 9: Remove and clean screen out. Return ink to its proper container

Once you’ve removed the screen from the press, clear the screen of ink and tape. If there’s excess ink, put it back in the ink container, it’s okay to reuse!

Step 10: Fold shirts

Finally, fold the shirts and box them up for customers to enjoy!

While this is a very simplified version of our process, we hope it was helpful to see how a T-shirt is made at Cornerstone Impressions!
