When you’re in high school, class T-shirts represent a year in your life and your place in the school. After graduation, class shirts become keepsakes. When we see them years after high school has passed, we are reminded of the time we spent with our peers and the fun we had together.

As screen printers, we see plenty of class shirts. Some are funny, some are sassy, and some are serious. While it’s never easy to choose the perfect phrase to mark a moment in time, we’ve seen some pretty great ones! Today we’re sharing our top picks for the 2016-2017 school year.

Summer is the season of events! Family reunions, vacations, benefits and philanthropy events! Of these, charity events are some of our favorites to print for. This is because we know the products we create will help bring awareness to a good cause.

Many of our clients dedicate their time to helping others, and we feel so lucky to have a tiny part in supporting these amazing people! Today we want to turn the spotlight on a few of our clients with a cause!

The Jackson Project

The Jackson Project is a non-profit organization created in honor of Jackson Wallace, a child who is fighting a fatal form of Leukodystrophy called Krabbe Disease. This summer the organization hosted their 3rd annual soccer tournament to raise money for Krabbe Disease awareness.

CSI-GroupPhoto-1In today’s fast paced world, everyone moves at cyber speed. Communication is instant, a world of shopping is only a click away, and sometimes we forget to stop to enjoy the things around us. That’s why we are so happy to live and work in Fort Worth, TX.

Fort Worth mixes metroplex life with a small town feel. The city is busy, but the people are friendly. On any given night, you can find live music from every genre. The drinks are cold, the weather is warm, and the shopping is awesome!

Those of you visiting our blog for the first time might not know who we are or why we are talking to you about our city. It’s simple really. This city is important to us. We are Cornerstone Impressions, a Fort Worth based print shop. We create anything and everything you can put your name or brand on, and we often work with other local businesses. To us, the best thing about our job is getting to know the people behind the products we print.

We truly love meeting people who live and work near us. We love hearing their stories, learning about their passions and visiting their businesses! When a client opens our eyes to a new restaurant, boutique, brewery, venue, or any other business we were previously unaware of, we are thrilled. Since our doors opened in 2002, we’ve met thousands of amazing people and visited hundreds of places we were previously unaware of, right in our own backyard!

Our clients have shared all of their awesome ventures with us, and now we want to share them with you! Whether you’ve lived here for 3 days or your entire life, we are sure you’ll find something awesome on this list:

THE BREWS

The Brews Candid

PANTHER ISLAND BREWING – Located right along the banks of the trinity river, you’ll find an awesome brewery serving delicious beers with a side of live music and great food. Check out their events, stop by and have a glass, we promise you wont regret it!

MARTIN HOUSE BREWING CO. recently celebrated their 3rd anniversary, and it’s safe to say they’re here to stay. Martin House offers tours and tastings and a wide selection of beers to choose from. They feature year around beers, seasonal beers and super limited edition beers, so there’s always something new for you to taste when you visit!

HOPFUSION ALE WORKS is currently being built in the heart of Fort Worth’s Near SouthSide neighborhood. The startup brewery focuses on community, friends and craft beer as an experience. Check them out, their journey is just beginning!

THE FOOD

The Food

FUZZY’S TACO SHOP may have locations across the country now, but the original Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is still right here in Fort Worth where it all began. Known for their baja style tacos and cult-like fan following, we promise you wont regret popping in for a drink and a taco… or twelve.

TACO HEADS started in a single food truck here in Fort Worth, quickly expanded with more trucks and recently grew into their new brick and mortar store in the Cultural District. They offer a relaxed, friendly environment with hand-made cocktails and tacos. All drinks, tacos and snacks are free of man-made chemicals or additives. In other words, they taste amazing.

RAILHEAD SMOKEHOUSE BBQ is a Fort Worth staple known for their great barbecue and cold beer. The rustic style restaurant is laid back, delicious, and a nice escape from busy everyday life. Because, as they say at Railhead, “Life is too short to live in Dallas.”

THE GOODS

The Goods

THE RUSTIC BEARDSMAN – If you’ve ever spent time in Fort Worth, you’ll know that beards have always been a thing here, which makes it the perfect home for The Rustic Beardsman. The Rustic Beardsman is a high quality beard care line made with all natural and organic ingredients. Perhaps their best quality, though, is that they truly care about every customer and the beard they wear.

LAZY J RANCH WEAR – A self described “western wear based store with funk,” Lazy J Ranch Wear is a classic example of Fort Worth. Located in the historic stockyards, Lazy J is the perfect place to stop in and get a real feel for western style. Cowboy boots, hats, and men’s and women’s apparel are just the beginning of what you’ll find at Lazy J Ranch Wear.

Can you believe these are only a tiny portion of the amazing people and places we get to work and play with here in Fort Worth? We could talk for days about how awesome our clients are, but we trust you can use this list to see for yourself!

If you’re curious about what other treasures are hiding in plain sight around here, shoot us an email and ask! We’re happy to point you in the right direction. 🙂 As for us, you can see more of our clients, products and services on our sites below!

Producing high-quality screen prints requires a thorough understanding of the screen printing process and a great deal of practice. Many people don’t realize the screen printing process is lengthy and requires much attention to detail. Aaron Allen, a long-time member of our team, created this step by step video of our process. We’ll elaborate on each step below.

This video shows the screen printing process AFTER artwork is already created, separated into individual colors (each color = 1 screen), and printed onto clear films.

Step 1: Lining up and taping your image to be exposed in a light source.

In order to transfer an image from a clear film to a screen for printing, we first place the film on a UV light source and secure it with clear tape. Then we coat our screen with a light activated chemical called emulsion and place the screen on top of our film.

Step 2: Exposing the SCREEN TO THE light in order to burn the image into it

When emulsion is hit with UV light, it cures, or hardens, on the screen. The printed areas of your film will block out light. The emulsion will cure on the blank areas of the film only. This process, commonly referred to as ‘burning,’ essentially turns your screen into a stencil. Later, when your screen is on the printing press, ink will only be able to travel through the areas of the screen where there is no emulsion.

Step 3: Soak the screen

After your image is burned in the screen, take the screen to the wash tank and thoroughly soak each side of the screen. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the water time to react with the uncured emulsion.

Step 4: Spray out screen

Still at the wash tank, use a hose to spray off excess emulsion from your print area. You should spray the screen until you can clearly see through the design.

Step 5: Taping the screen up so ink doesn’t get through

Once you’ve let your screen dry and you’re ready to go to press, tape all around the edges of the screen’s borders. This will ensure no ink leaks onto your garment.

Step 6: Lining the screen up and adding ink

Now you’re moving the screen to your printing press and lining it up for print. For multi-colored designs, you will have multiple screens so it’s important to pay attention to detail and align the screens correctly. Otherwise, you could end up with one part of a print at the top of a shirt and the other part at the bottom.

Once your screens are lined up on your press, add ink. Only add one ink color per screen.

Step 7: Loading and pulling the shirts while running them through the dryer

As the press starts, load shirts onto blank pallets. Once a shirt has gone through it’s printing cycle, remove and place it onto the drying belt. It’s important to make sure the temperature of your dryer is high enough to properly cure the ink. If the temperature is not high enough, the image will crack and wash out. Once again, attention to detail is required. To ensure a high-quality print, check the dryer temperature with a laser thermometer.

Step 8: Remove squeegee and flood bar. Unhook air lock.

When all of your shirts are printed, it’s time to clean up. We first remove the squeegee and flood bar. The squeegee in screen printing is similar to the squeegee you use to clean your car windows, except this one was used to force ink through the mesh screen onto your garment. The flood bar is used to contain the ink. It helps keep ink under the squeegee and away from the edges of the frame.

Step 9: Remove and clean screen out. Return ink to its proper container

Once you’ve removed the screen from the press, clear the screen of ink and tape. If there’s excess ink, put it back in the ink container, it’s okay to reuse!

Step 10: Fold shirts

Finally, fold the shirts and box them up for customers to enjoy!

While this is a very simplified version of our process, we hope it was helpful to see how a T-shirt is made at Cornerstone Impressions!

When it comes to ordering custom products and apparel, you have a lot to consider. Factors like budget, product quality, product quantity and turnaround time are all a part of your decision making process; but what about design quality? How important is it to have a really nice design? In our opinion, it’s everything!

Great designs are a powerful thing. Consider this: when you see a really cool T-shirt, are you noticing the shirt itself or the design on the shirt? Chances are, it’s the design that makes a statement and catches your attention. Similarly, you’ve probably found yourself mesmerized by a poster at the doctor’s office or a great canvas print in the store. It’s not the poster or the canvas you’re looking at, it’s the design.

Around here, we know great designs make all the difference. That’s why our award winning graphic design team is at the heart of everything we produce. T-shirts, banners, decals, stickers, even our custom tables all start out in the art room. Our graphic design services don’t stop there, though. Aside from screen print and digital print design work, our artists can help you create the perfect image to reflect your business, brand or organization. Additional graphic design services:

brand identity
logo design/redesign
rebranding
garment design
hand drawn artwork

Now that you’ve seen some of our designers’ work, consider your brand and marketing materials. Are the designs eye catching? Do they convey the message you want to send? If you’re not sure, give us a call and see what our graphic artists can create for you today. Rest assured, we’re here to make you look good.
